Bessie provides treatment using EMDR, CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, and person-centered therapy, and holds certifications in EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT — she’s also currently a Consultant-in-Training in EMDR (CIT-EMDR), working toward her EMDR Consultant certification. Her focus throughout her career has centered on trauma, abuse, neglect, and attachment-related concerns, along with anxiety and depression.
“Life led me to this work,” she says. “I have always been interested in people’s lives — how they’ve arrived where they are, their ability to overcome, and their resilience. I’ve also always sought work that allows me to help others, and I’ve been fortunate to be able to do that as a therapist.” That focus on trauma has run through her career even before she became a therapist.
“My hope is to always provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard and supported,” she says. If there’s one thing she wishes more people knew about therapy, it’s simple: “That it can be so helpful.”
The Client Sponsorship Fund has let her keep providing treatment to clients she otherwise couldn’t see because of insurance or financial concerns — something that matters to her every day she’s at KPCC. What keeps her here is just as simple: “the kind and professional staff.”
“Whether you decide to seek counseling now or later, whether it be me or another qualified counselor,” she says, “there is help for your suffering. You can get relief from this pain.”
