Kathy has spent years working with people at life’s crossroads: determining work/life balance, facing loss or trauma, dealing with pain and sorrow – some believing they’ll never be good enough. Her approach borrows from Gestalt, Person-Centered, CBT and ACT, MI, EMDR, MBSR, Hypnotherapy, and Imagery, with a bit of Gottman and EFT for working with couples. “Some might call my range Eclectic,” she says. “I call it focusing on the present moment to address a client’s needs.”
She engages with individuals, couples, and groups facing work/life stressors, trauma, illness and pain, grief, and relationship challenges. “Helping someone to let go of guilt and shame; manage their issues, and take some positive action is very liberating for them – validating for me,” she says. “Listening to those whose hope begins to sparkle anew is amazing — they grin the brightest smiles and sometimes call it a miracle… and it just might be. After all, life involves mind, body, and spirit.”
Kathy is a lifelong learner who also loves to teach and coach. Her background includes teaching higher education in Human Services; helping to develop a national Peer Support Specialist program; certifying at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland and the Center for Mind-Body Medicine; sitting on SAMHSA expert panels; and providing Disaster Mental Health site-work for Red Cross Service to Armed Forces. As an Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor, she draws from her past mentors and pays it forward – assisting MA Interns and Provisionally Licensed Counselor Supervisees toward their own professional goals.
She’s glad to sit with someone exploring their faith or spirituality — “I won’t impose my own beliefs, and I’m happy to pray or meditate with you – if that’s what you’re seeking. For me, loving-kindness, forgiveness, and self-compassion are spiritual values worth holding onto. After all, a bit of faith goes a long way!”
